About Stuart

I was born in the UK - in a small village in Surrey- and moved to the US when I was 11 - to Orlando, Florida. I used to think I was going to be the next British Prime Minister, but, following an apprenticeship at a local theatre, decided to pursue directing and producing theatre.

I’ve been very lucky to have the chance to do just that, and, through making artt, have learned more about myself than I could ever have expected.

Through my studies at the University of Michigan with professors, peers, and creatives of the highest order, I’ve developed my skills in theatrical performance, leadership, collaboration, and artistic expression.

Through my work with young people and young artists, through clown, I’ve unpacked the barebones essentials needed to communicate effectively and to make art.

Through travel, and through my peers, friends, and mentors, I’ve learned about the world around me from dozens of perspectives so unlike my own.

Through the guitar, soccer, running, film, weights, comedy, and directing, I’ve figured out how to best interpret and channel my views into productive, fulfilling ways.

Through my work - as a director, AD, production manager, and stage manager in Orlando, Houston, DC, and Detroit - I’ve discovered what I value in the projects and work environments I engage with.

I’m fascinated by people, and my theatrical practices are rooted in the idea that we’re worth exploring. There’s nothing more worthwhile than understanding each other. Art is the only way I’ve found that truly allows for this - honest, careful art, made by honest, kind artists. I want to be a part of this kind of art-making, and involved in any project I can be that pursues it.
